POSITION DESCRIPTION

The individual will report to the Assistant General Couel of Intellectual Property, Beckman Coulter, and will be couel to Beckman’s Research and Development organization in Suzhou, China and Mishima, Japan. As such, they will have global respoibility and exteive interaction with R&D senior management. The individual will provide legal advice, couel, and services to eure that the organization is protecting its innovatio and mitigating risk as to third party Intellectual Property. The individual will also be respoible for coordinating Intellectual Property litigation, especially trademark enforcement actio, in China.

Day-to-day duties for this position include:

?Advising, coueling, and actively participating in the development of a strategic Intellectual Property portfolio (including patents, copyrights, trademarks and trade secrets), with particular emphasis on procuring protection of the hardware and software in Beckman’s clinical analyze.

?Preparation and prosecution of patents.

?Monitoring third party use of Beckman’s trademarks.

?Monitoring third party Intellectual Property so as to provide competitive intelligence reports and possible Open Innovation opportunities to the business as well as to eure freedom to operate.

?Providing couel and advice to the company globally on regulatio, laws and other issues in China effecting Intellectual Property.

?Collaboration with Beckman Coulter’s global Intellectual Property team on the above.

?Providing occasional Intellectual Property support to other operating companies on Danaher’s Diagnostic platform, including Leica Biosystems and Radiometer.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

?Law degree from an accredited law school with a strong academic record.

?Liceed to practice law in at least one jurisdiction in China.

?5+ yea as a patent attorney with significant focus on protecting complex mechanical systems.

?Demotrated ability to lead an organization to appropriate decision-making.
